Bloc Party map a romance across their seventh album

Bloc Party released their seventh studio album, *Anatomy of a Brief Romance*, on 11 September 2026 via cOnTAGIOUS LTD. The fourteen-track record was produced by Trevor Horn and is presented as the band’s most personal album to date: a chronological account of a relationship running from first meeting through to breakup.

Singles taken from the set include Coming On Strong, Love Bombs, Now We Can’t Be Friends and Pigwig. Around the release date the band played intimate UK record-store shows. Reviews have followed.

Four years on from Alpha Games

The record follows *Alpha Games*, released in 2022. Between those full-lengths the band issued the singles High Life and Keep It Rolling and *The High Life* EP in 2023, then *A Weekend in the City B-Sides* and the single Flirting Again in 2024. Coming On Strong sits among the 2026 titles tied directly to the new album.

Kele Okereke and Russell Lissack formed Bloc Party in London in 1999. The current line-up comprises Louise Bartle and bassist Harry Deacon alongside Okereke and Lissack. Their sound has long been rooted in rock while retaining strands of electronica and house. Their early catalogue begins with the *Bloc Party* and *Little Thoughts* EPs in 2004, followed in 2005 by the singles Banquet, Helicopter and Tulips and the debut album *Silent Alarm* — the record that established the group on the mid-2000s independent circuit and still shapes how many listeners first encountered them.

That span, from the 2004 EPs and *Silent Alarm* through later albums to *Alpha Games* and now a seventh studio set, is the run against which *Anatomy of a Brief Romance* must be heard. A full album with a named external producer and a clear narrative brief is a different proposition from the singles and the EP that filled the years after 2022.

A story told in order

By laying the fourteen tracks out as a relationship in sequence, the band ask that the record be taken as one continuous statement rather than a loose stack of songs. The title points at the same short arc: contact, intensity, fracture. Horn’s production credit is the fixed studio fact; the emotional framing is the artistic claim the album makes on arrival.

The record-store dates kept the first live outings small and close to the racks. Those shows have already taken place; no wider tour itinerary is set out in the material to hand, so what follows on the road remains open.

For a group more than twenty-five years after forming, a seventh studio album built as personal chronology is a deliberate turn.
