Bowie80 maps a year of records, rooms and images
Nordstrom shops, a Cleveland pop-up, twin photography shows and Philip Glass in Copenhagen are already on the slate, with every further date reserved for a single official site.
The estate of David Bowie announced Bowie80 on 5 October 2026, a global series of events, releases, collaborations and fan experiences marking what would have been the artist's 80th birthday on 8 January 2027. The celebrations begin immediately and run throughout 2027. Full details of every strand will appear exclusively on bowie80.davidbowie.com.Bowie, the English singer born in 1947 who died in 2016, left work that still anchors British and Irish pop and rock. The estate presents the coming year as a sustained way to acknowledge that enduring cultural impact — the records, the stage presence and the visual language that continue to draw both long-time listeners and new ones.
Shops, halls and the camera
Among the first initiatives is an exclusive fashion partnership with the US department store Nordstrom. Immersive shops will appear in Nordstrom's Seattle, New York and Chicago flagship stores and online, built around limited-edition collections.
From mid-November to January 2027, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland will host a pop-up store. During the birthday weekend the Hall will stage fan activations, educational presentations, trivia, music and photo opportunities, alongside a photography exhibition.
Morrison Hotel Gallery will present the Strange Fascination photography exhibition in Los Angeles and New York in February 2027, extending the visual strand of the anniversary into the early months of the year.
Copenhagen and the rest of the calendar
Composer Philip Glass will lead the symphonic concert Bowie (Breaking) Glass in Copenhagen next spring. Further releases, collaborations and fan experiences are scheduled to join the programme as 2027 unfolds; all will be announced through that site.
Nothing in the opening slate attempts to put the singer back on a stage he no longer occupies. The shape of Bowie80 is deliberately spread across retail floors, museum rooms, gallery walls and the concert hall. For listeners who still live with the records and the cover versions, that spread offers several doors into the same body of work rather than a single commemorative night.
Exact stock lists for the Nordstrom collections, the full timetable of educational sessions in Cleveland, ticket details for Copenhagen and any additional dates have not yet been published. They will land on bowie80.davidbowie.com as each element is confirmed. The estate has made that site the sole official channel for the year.
What stands now is the frame itself. From this October through the whole of 2027, the official calendar will fill around the birthday that would have fallen on 8 January. The craft remains the point: the work kept in circulation — in shops, halls and under lights — without gossip or the emptiness of a line recycled for the sake of a release date.
