Deacon Blue seal a third Glasgow night for Raintown

The 1987 debut will be played in full across UK and Irish arenas in October 2027, with the extra Hydro show set for 31 October after the first Glasgow date filled fast.

Deacon Blue have added a third Glasgow show to their Raintown 40th Anniversary Tour. The extra night is set for Sunday 31 October 2027 at the OVO Hydro, put on sale in response to demand for the Scottish run.

The band posted the new date on their official X account on 18 September 2026. Pre-sale began on 23 September 2026 and general sale followed on 25 September 2026. The show falls two days after the already confirmed Glasgow date on 29 October at the same venue.

Across October 2027 the band will perform their 1987 debut album Raintown in full, then draw on selections from the rest of the catalogue. The run opens in Ireland and moves through major UK arenas: Belfast O2 Arena on 6 October, Dublin 3Arena on 7 October, Liverpool M&S Bank Arena on 9 October, Leeds First Direct Arena on 10 October, Hull Connexin Live on 12 October, Nottingham Motorpoint Arena on 13 October, Newcastle Utilita Arena on 14 October, Cardiff Utilita Arena on 16 October, Brighton Centre on 17 October, Bournemouth International Centre on 19 October, Birmingham Utilita Arena on 20 October, Manchester co-op Live on 22 October, London Eventim Apollo on 25 October, Aberdeen P&J Live on 27 October, and the two Glasgow OVO Hydro nights on 29 and 31 October.

A debut that still defines the set

Deacon Blue formed in Glasgow in 1985. The line-up centres on vocalists Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh, keyboard player James Prime, and drummer Dougie Vipond. Raintown was released in the United Kingdom on 1 May 1987 and in the United States in February 1988. It remains the record that fixed their place in British and Irish pop and rock, a debut rooted in the city that shaped them, and still the album audiences ask for night after night.

The second album, When the World Knows Your Name, topped the UK Albums Chart for two weeks in 1989 and carried "Real Gone Kid", their first top-ten single in the UK Singles Chart. Fellow Hoodlums followed in 1991 and Whatever You Say, Say Nothing in 1993, before a greatest-hits package and a long run of further studio and live work. In recent years the band have stayed active on record: Peace Will Come arrived in 2024, The Great Western Road in 2025, and The Great Western Road Trip: A Live Album in 2026. Playing the first album complete, four decades on, places those later records in a continuous line rather than as afterthoughts.

Frontman Ricky Ross has commented on the enduring appeal of the debut as the anniversary tour has taken shape. For a band still writing and releasing new material, the decision to put Raintown at the centre of a full arena run underlines how far the songwriting has travelled while keeping the first record as the live anchor.

What the route says about the band now

The itinerary is built for scale: arenas in Belfast, Dublin, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, London and both ends of Scotland, with mid-sized halls in Brighton and Bournemouth filling the gaps. Opening in the north and the Republic before the English and Welsh stretch, then returning north for Aberdeen and the double Glasgow finish, keeps the home cities at both ends of the story.

A full-album set plus catalogue material is now a familiar format for bands of this generation, but it carries particular weight here. Raintown was never a brief commercial spike; it has stayed in the bloodstream of Scottish and Irish pop for nearly forty years. Hearing it complete, then watching the set open out into the later work, gives audiences a single evening that maps the career without turning the night into a museum piece.

Tickets for the added Glasgow date went on general sale in late September 2026. The rest of the October 2027 run was already on sale when the third Hydro night was confirmed. No further dates have been announced beyond the list above.
