Fatboy Slim picks parks and sheds for Australia 2027

Norman Cook has locked in seven Australian dates for March 2027 under his Fatboy Slim moniker, turning away from arenas in favour of parks, riverside sites and converted industrial spaces. The announcement was posted on his official website on 9 September.

The run opens on 3 March at Esplanade Park in Fremantle, Western Australia. It then settles into a three-night residency at Carriageworks in Sydney on 5, 6 and 7 March, before moving north to On The Banks in Brisbane on 10 March. Two nights at The Underpass in Melbourne on 12 and 13 March close the itinerary. Presale registration opens at 9am local time on 14 September, with general sale following on 15 September.

Cook framed the choice of venues, saying he wanted “more personal, underground and urban outdoor spaces” with “real atmosphere” and “a proper party”, adding: “bridges, rivers, parks, old railway sheds… if it’s a bit weird and the sound system’s loud enough, I’m there.” The statement emphasised an intimate party feel rather than a large-scale arena spectacle.

From Hull basslines to big beat

That appetite for unorthodox rooms sits squarely in a career that has never been confined to one format. Cook first came to national attention in the 1980s as bassist with the Hull indie band the Housemartins, who scored a UK number-one single with their a cappella cover of “Caravan of Love”. After that group split he moved into electronic production in Brighton, forming Beats International and landing another number one with “Dub Be Good to Me”. Spells with Freak Power, Pizzaman and the Mighty Dub Katz followed before the Fatboy Slim alias took hold.

Under that name he helped define the big beat sound of the 1990s. The debut album *Better Living Through Chemistry* arrived in 1996, surrounded by a run of EPs that included *Punk to Funk*, *Santa Cruz* and the two-part *Everybody Needs a 303*. Later singles and EPs kept the catalogue moving: *Gangster Trippin’*, *Where U Iz* in 2017, the *Fatboy Slim vs Australia* EP in 2018, and more recent cuts such as “Bus Stop Please” and “Role Model” in 2024 and “Satisfaction Skank” in 2025. The Australian connection already present in that 2018 EP now returns as a full tour built around atmosphere rather than capacity.

A busy year, then the outdoor rooms

The March 2027 dates follow a crowded 2026 that has already taken in Rock in Rio and shows at Brighton Beach. Against that backdrop the Australian itinerary reads as a deliberate change of scale: seven nights across four cities, three of them spent in a single Sydney venue, and every stop chosen for character over size.

Ticket details beyond the sale windows have not yet been published. What is fixed is the geography and the brief Cook has set himself — outdoor and industrial spaces, a loud system, and the kind of night that feels closer to a street party than a seated show. For an artist whose best-known work was built for the dancefloor rather than the seated hall, the March run keeps faith with that instinct while giving Australian audiences a run of rooms that match it.

What remains is the simple sequence: registration on 14 September, general sale the next day, and seven nights in March that trade arenas for parks, river banks and old railway sheds.
