Fontaines D.C. open Blackweir 2027 at Bute Park

Fontaines D.C. are the first headliner confirmed for Blackweir Fields in Cardiff next summer. The Dublin band play the Bute Park site on Tuesday 29 June 2027, with Little Simz and Viagra Boys as special guests. The venue holds up to 35,000 people, and the booking is the opening announcement for Blackweir 2027.

The Cardiff night is part of a five?date run of UK outdoor headline shows built around the band’s fifth studio album. Dopamine Chamber is due on 16 October via XL Recordings. After Blackweir the itinerary runs St James’ Park in Newcastle on 1 July, Heaton Park in Manchester on 3 July, Glasgow Green on 6 July and London Stadium on 9 July. Fontaines D.C. will also play two nights at Slane Castle in Ireland in June 2027.

The package was announced on 3 September, after the band’s headline performance at Reading Festival and only days after they had teased further UK outdoor shows. Presale tickets opened on 8 September; general sale followed on 10 September.

From Dogrel to the big fields

That step onto stadium and large park stages continues a climb that began in Dublin rooms and European support slots. Fontaines D.C. met as a quintet in the Irish capital; they were shaped by the city’s counter?culture and answered it with concise, immediately authentic indie?punk. Early live work — supports for Hinds, The Horrors, Girl Band, Franz Ferdinand and The Lemon Twigs, plus festival turns at Electric Picnic, Hard Working Class Heroes and Other Voices — earned them a reputation for brooding, trenchant performances before the records fully landed.

Dogrel, the 2019 debut, set out the stall. A Hero’s Death followed in 2020, Skinty Fia in 2022 and Romance in 2024. Along the way came the singles that still define the early catalogue, among them Liberty Belle, Too Real and Boys in the Better Land, and later work including the 2025 single It’s Amazing To Be Young. Dopamine Chamber will be the fifth studio album, arriving through XL Recordings a little over two years after Romance.

For a band still in that phase of their career, nights at London Stadium and St James’ Park, and a 35,000?capacity field in Cardiff, mark a clear shift in the scale of venues they are expected to fill. Blackweir Fields itself is new ground on this calendar: the first name on the 2027 bill sets the tone for whatever else the site books next year.

What the run still asks

The scale of the British outdoor dates and the two nights at Slane had already been set. Cardiff’s place as the first confirmed Blackweir headliner of 2027 is the fresh marker — a Welsh date with its own identity inside a run that now stretches from Bute Park to the capital in the space of ten days.
