Fontaines D.C. open Dopamine Chamber with 'Tongue'

The track lands ahead of the 16 October release on XL, after a Brooklyn debut and with Rosalía already named on the record.

Fontaines D.C. have released 'Tongue', the latest taste of their fifth studio album Dopamine Chamber. The record is due on 16 October 2026 via XL Recordings.

The track received its live debut at the band's gig at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn on 21 September 2026. The full album tracklist, revealed on 17 September 2026, runs to eleven songs and includes 'Tongue'. The earlier single 'Marianne' came out on 18 August 2026. Dopamine Chamber carries the band's first collaboration: Rosalía appears on 'Where Is Gone?'. Frontman Grian Chatten has described the album as a collection where “You step inside and we test these different mind- or mood-altering pieces of music on you.” The band have announced a UK and European tour following the release.

From Dogrel to the new cycle

The Dublin quintet met around a shared pull towards their hometown's counter-culture and answered it with concise, immediately authentic indie-punk. Early singles such as 'Hurricane Laughter' / 'Winter in the Sun', 'Liberty Belle', 'Chequeless Reckless' / 'Boys in the Better Land' and 'Too Real' set the tone before the debut album Dogrel arrived in 2019. A Hero's Death followed in 2020, then Skinty Fia in 2022, with further related releases including Skinty Fia go deo and the single 'Cello Song' in 2023. Romance came in 2024. The 2025 single 'It's Amazing To Be Young' sat between that album and the present cycle.

Along the way the band built a reputation for brooding, trenchant live sets, supporting HINDS, The Horrors, Girl Band, Franz Ferdinand and The Lemon Twigs, and taking festival slots at Electric Picnic, Hard Working Class Heroes and Other Voices. That stage force remains part of how Dopamine Chamber is being introduced: 'Tongue' was not held back as a studio-only release but played to an audience in Brooklyn before the single's release.

What the chamber holds

A fifth album after Romance places the band deeper into a career that has already moved through several distinct studio chapters while keeping the same core identity. The decision to open the door to a guest on 'Where Is Gone?' is presented as a first: collaboration enters the catalogue just as Chatten frames the record as a controlled space for mood-altering pieces.

What comes next is already partly mapped. Dopamine Chamber is locked for 16 October on XL.
