Jamiroquai carry the Latin tour into its Mexican close

Guadalajara hosts the band today, with Mexico City on Sunday; the leg marks thirty years of Virtual Insanity and previews music due in 2027.

Jamiroquai are at Arena Guadalajara today, 25 September, as their Latin America Tour 2026 moves through the closing Mexican dates. Arena Ciudad de México follows on 27 September. The band played Arena Monterrey on 23 September. The run forms part of the Heels of Steel Tour and comes after a sequence of South American shows completed earlier in the month.

The earlier dates took in Rock in Rio on 11 September, São Paulo on 13 September, Santiago on 15 September, Buenos Aires on 17 September and Bogotá on 19 September. In Buenos Aires and again in Bogotá the band delivered two-hour sets, mixing the established repertoire with glimpses of work still to be released.

Thirty years after Travelling Without Moving

The timing is deliberate. 2026 marks thirty years since Virtual Insanity, the single taken from the 1996 album Travelling Without Moving. That record remains the point at which Jamiroquai's London funk and acid jazz crossed most fully into the global mainstream. The group formed in 1992, fronted by Jay Kay, and quickly became a leading name in the capital's acid jazz scene. Kay has remained the sole constant through successive line-up changes.

Emergency On Planet Earth arrived in 1993, followed by The Return of the Space Cowboy in 1994. Those albums built the acid jazz foundation. Later work drew on rock, disco, electronic and Latin music, while the writing continued to address social and environmental justice. Travelling Without Moving in 1996 sealed the commercial breakthrough. Decades on, Automaton in 2017 showed the project still active in the studio. More recent single releases have revisited the catalogue: reworks of Little L appeared in 2023 and 2024, and fresh treatments of Deeper Underground and Space Cowboy were released in 2024.

On the current tour, the sets have included both the classics and previews of material expected in 2027. That mix gives the Latin American dates one foot in the anniversary and one in what comes next.

The road still open

Jay Kay had hinted at Latin American shows towards the end of 2025. Those dates are now almost complete. After Monterrey, and with Guadalajara under way today, only the night at Arena Ciudad de México on 27 September remains on the published itinerary for this leg.

Placing the gigs inside the Heels of Steel Tour rather than as a free-standing anniversary package underlines the longer arc. Jamiroquai have never been a static heritage act: the line-up has shifted, the sound has taken in new colours, and the road work has continued. For an audience that knows the albums from Emergency On Planet Earth through Travelling Without Moving to Automaton, these Mexican nights offer the songs that defined the reputation and the first public airing of music still scheduled for 2027.

What stands immediately ahead is clear enough. Today in Guadalajara and Sunday in Mexico City close the Latin stretch. Beyond that, the new material pointed toward 2027 remains the next chapter the band have put on the table.
