Kodaline Announce Bittersweet Split. One Final Album to Close the Chapter

Thursday 9th, 2025

Kodaline have announced that they are parting ways after more than a decade together — but before saying goodbye, they will head into the studio “one last time” to record their fifth and final album.

Known for heartfelt hits like High Hopes, All I Want and Brother, Kodaline confirmed the news with an emotional video message shared on Instagram, captioned:

“After over a decade, it’s time to say goodbye. With all our love VSMJ.”
They added the hashtags #ThankYou #KodalineLastAlbum #KodalineOneLastTime.

“What we’ve shared has changed our lives forever”

In the video, the band members — Steve Garrigan, Vincent May, Mark Prendergast, and Jason Boland — reflected on their journey together:

“After over a decade together, we’ve made the difficult decision to say goodbye to Kodaline.
It might come as a surprise, and it’s definitely bittersweet for us too.
What we’ve shared has changed our lives forever.
From busking on the streets of Dublin to playing shows across the world, it really has been the stuff that dreams are made of.
We want it to end on a high, so before we say goodbye, we’re heading into the studio one last time to record our fifth and final album as Kodaline.
We are, and always will be, forever grateful for your love and support.
It’s been a journey that we’ll never forget and we hope that the music stays with you long after we’re gone.”

They signed off simply:

“With all our love, Vinny, Steve, Mark and Jay.”

From 21 Demands to Kodaline – An Irish Success Story

Kodaline’s story began in Swords, North County Dublin, where they first performed under the name 21 Demands.
In 2007, they made Irish music history when their debut single Give Me a Minute became the first independently released track ever to top the Irish Singles Chart.

In 2012, the band changed their name to Kodaline, marking a new musical direction that would soon take them around the world.

Their four studio albums — In a Perfect World (2013), Coming Up for Air (2015), Politics of Living (2018), and One Day at a Time (2020) — all achieved major success. Three of them reached No. 1 in the Irish charts, while their 2020 album peaked at No. 2.

The band earned international acclaim and sold-out tours across Europe, Asia, and North America. They also graced some of the biggest festival stages in the world, including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, and Electric Picnic (where they headlined in 2024).

Over a Billion Streams and a Global Fanbase

Kodaline’s emotionally charged music has resonated deeply with listeners worldwide.
Their 2012 single All I Want — featured in The Fault in Our Stars and TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy and The Vampire Diaries — has now surpassed 1.3 billion streams on Spotify, making it one of only a handful of Irish songs to reach that milestone.

At the time, the band thanked fans saying:

“Big numbers! Over a billion. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! You have changed our lives.”

Other standout tracks like High Hopes, Brother and The One continue to dominate playlists and Irish radio airwaves.

Ending on a High Note

While the breakup came as a shock to many fans, Kodaline explained that they wanted to end on a high rather than slowly fade away.

“We want it to end on a high,” they said. “Before we say goodbye, we’re heading into the studio one last time to record our fifth and final album as Kodaline.”

No release date or title has been revealed yet, but the project is expected to serve as a powerful final chapter — a tribute to their fans and their journey as a band.

A Legacy That Will Live On

For over a decade, Kodaline have been one of Ireland’s most successful and beloved modern bands — combining raw emotion with soaring melodies and relatable lyrics.

They have inspired a new generation of Irish musicians and left an undeniable mark on contemporary pop and rock music.

As the band themselves said in their farewell message:

“It’s been a journey that we’ll never forget, and we hope that the music stays with you long after we’re gone.”

Their upcoming fifth album will be their final gift to fans — a chance to say goodbye the way they began: through the music that changed their lives.

Kodaline may be saying farewell, but their songs — from Give Me a Minute to All I Want — will remain timeless anthems of Irish music for years to come.
