Kodaline's farewell album lands in every format
Twelve tracks written solely by Steve Garrigan, from ballad to anthem, while the Farewell World Tour still has road left and Vinny May calls the set a debt paid to the fans.
Three days after its release, We Were Only Young is on the shelves in standard vinyl, CD and digital. Kodaline issued the album on 2 October 2026 through Concord Records. It is their final studio album.Every song on the album explores themes of growth, connection, love and closure.
Ballads such as All I Ever Need Is You sit alongside bigger, anthemic turns including It’s Not Over, Get Me High and Vultures. The shape is deliberate: new material offered as a full stop in the studio.
What the band say they owe
Drummer Vinny May has framed the release in plain terms. “It’s a great feeling to be releasing new music, giving the fans something new before we go our separate ways. I think we owe it to them – some of them have been with us from the very start,” he said. That line sits at the centre of the album’s timing. The album arrives as a last batch of songs for the audience that has followed the band through the catalogue.
Garrigan carrying the whole writing load gives the set a single voice at a point when many farewell albums scatter into outside collaboration. Who Will Save You Now and the title track open the door; Back To Me, Without You and Get Me High keep the middle moving; All I Ever Need Is You slows the room; Vultures, Last Forever, Learn To Lose and Hindsight push on; It’s Not Over and The One For Me close the account. The contrast between the ballads and the anthems is the only characterisation the release itself offers, and it is enough to mark the tone of the goodbye in the studio.
Formats, and what is left on the road
For listeners who want the object as well as the files, the translucent tan indie exclusive sits beside ordinary black vinyl and the CD. Digital completes the spread. Concord’s release puts the full stop on the recorded work; the physical editions simply make that stop available in every common form.
What remains is the road. Nothing in this release changes that itinerary. It changes the catalogue. It is a final studio statement — and then, as May put it, the separate ways. Until those last gigs are played, We Were Only Young is the new music Kodaline leave behind for the fans who were there from the start.
