Kodaline's last album is out — the tour rolls on
Vinny May says the tracks are what the band owe fans who have been there from the start; the record — their fifth and final studio album — arrived on 2 October 2026 as they approach the remaining dates.
Kodaline have released We Were Only Young, their fifth and final studio album, through Concord Records on 2 October 2026.The timing places the record in the midst of the endgame, rather than arriving after it. Releasing new songs is how the band have chosen to mark the close of their studio years.
What the songs do
We Were Only Young does not stick to one mood. Ballads sit beside broader pop songwriting. All I Ever Need Is You is acoustic; Learn To Lose takes a piano-gospel turn. Pop anthems such as It's Not Over and the buoyant folk-pop single Vultures pull in the other direction. The album also includes Who Will Save You Now, the title track We Were Only Young, Get Me High and The One For Me.
The title itself looks back: We Were Only Young is both the name of the album and one of its songs, a framing that suits a band writing a last chapter rather than opening a new one.
A debt to the early supporters
Drummer Vinny May put the release in plain terms. "It's a great feeling to be releasing new music, giving the fans something new before we go our separate ways. I think we owe it to them – some of them have been with us from the very start, supporting us through thick and thin, and we wouldn't be who we are without them."
That sense of obligation fits a group who began by busking in Swords, Dublin, and went on to multi-platinum success. We Were Only Young is the closing studio chapter of that arc. There will be no sixth Kodaline studio album on the present evidence: May's language of 'separate ways' and of a debt paid is the clearest public signal yet that this set is the full stop in the studio.
On the road the picture is different. The album's job, in May's telling, is to give those rooms something current rather than leave the final stretch as a pure retrospective. When those dates finish, the members intend to part company.
For the audience that has followed them from Swords through the multi-platinum years, the facts are straightforward: the album is out and, after the final shows, the studio catalogue ends here.
