Madness claim Gunnersbury for their only London outdoor gig

The Camden band will headline Rock N Roll Circus’s London debut at Gunnersbury Park on 24 July 2027; resident pre-sale tickets start today and further bill names are due in the coming months.

Madness have been named as the first headliner for the inaugural London edition of Rock N Roll Circus, playing Gunnersbury Park on Saturday 24 July 2027. The date is billed as the band’s only outdoor summer show in the capital next year and as a homecoming on familiar ground.

Suggs put the invitation in plain terms: “Calling all Madheads and madhatters, join us next July in the great outdoors for Rock N Roll Circus. Bring your friends, bring your family and come dance in Gunnersbury Park, London. Yes, London, we are back!”

The booking lands after confirmation that Rock N Roll Circus will stage its London debut across four days from 22 to 25 July 2027. Special pre-sale tickets for residents go on sale on Tuesday 29 September 2026; the general pre-sale follows on Wednesday 30 September, and the public on-sale is set for Friday 2 October 2026. Further headliners and full line-ups for London, Norwich and Sheffield are due in the coming months.

From Bedford Park to the capital

The London announcement sits a week after Madness were confirmed as the first headline act for Live at Bedford Park on Friday 2 July 2027, with Scouting for Girls in support. Promoter Mark Harrison said the band had been chased for years and that it would be a fantastic concert. That Bedford date now reads as the opening outdoor marker of a summer that includes a second, larger focal point inside the M25.

For a group so tightly tied to north London, Gunnersbury carries obvious weight. Madness formed in Camden Town in 1976 and became one of the defining bands of the late 1970s and early 1980s two-tone ska revival. Six of the seven original members still perform together. Their most successful stretch ran from 1980 to 1986, when the songs spent a total of 214 weeks on the UK Singles Chart — a run that turned a local sound into a national habit.

The catalogue behind the booking

The early albums still set the terms of the live show for many long-time listeners. *One Step Beyond...* arrived in 1979, followed by *Absolutely* in 1980 and *7* in 1981. Singles from that period — *The Prince*, *It Must Be Love*, *Cardiac Arrest*, *Driving In My Car* — fixed the bounce and the humour that the band still trade on when playing outdoors. The group have not treated the catalogue as a closed book: *Theatre of the Absurd presents C'est La Vie* came out in 2023, with an enhanced edition the following year, and *Hit Parade* followed in 2025, keeping new material in circulation alongside the hits.

That continuity matters for a summer bill. An outdoor headline slot rewards a band who can hold a park without relying on spectacle alone, and Madness have spent decades refining exactly that mix of ska drive, pop hooks and crowd-facing theatre. Placing them first on the London Rock N Roll Circus poster signals the tone the promoters want before the rest of the bill is filled in.

Between Bedford Park at the start of July and Gunnersbury later the same month, Madness have two fixed outdoor dates for summer 2027. The capital show is framed as their sole outdoor London appearance of the season, which will shape how fans plan the run. Line-ups beyond the first headliner remain unannounced, and the Norwich and Sheffield editions of Rock N Roll Circus are still awaiting further names.
