Mike + The Mechanics plot Back On Track for 2027

Tickets have been on sale since 9am on Friday 25 September. The longest-standing line-up opens in Harrogate next May and rolls through Germany and Austria.

Mike + The Mechanics have set their Back On Track tour for 2027, spanning the United Kingdom, Germany and Austria. The dates keep the core line-up of Andrew Roachford, Tim Howar, Luke Juby, Anthony Drennan and Nic Collins on drums — the same unit that played the Refuelled! Tour through 2025.

Tickets went on sale at 9am on Friday 25 September via the band’s official website, Ticketmaster and Ticketline. Every remaining show is in 2027.

The British and European run

The UK itinerary opens at Harrogate Convention Centre on 8 May 2027. Birmingham Symphony Hall follows on 10 May, Swansea Building Society Arena on 11 May and Bath Forum on 12 May. The band then play London’s Royal Albert Hall on 7 June, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 10 June and Brighton Dome on 17 June.

Mainland European dates run through May 2027, with stops in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Bremen, Hannover, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Vienna and Munich. Venue-level detail beyond those cities has not been set out in the announcement.

Mike Rutherford, who leads the group, framed the tour as one of continuity. "It occurred to me when we started talking about this tour that the core of this line-up is the longest standing we have had with The Mechanics... I can’t wait to be doing this again," he said.

A project that outgrew the hiatus

Rutherford formed Mike + The Mechanics in Dover in 1985, initially as a side project while Genesis stood down. What began as a parallel outlet soon produced a run of singles that carved out their own place on British and international radio: Silent Running, All I Need Is a Miracle, Taken In, The Living Years, Word of Mouth and Over My Shoulder.

The debut album arrived in 1985. Living Years followed in 1988, Word of Mouth in 1991 and Beggar On a Beach of Gold in 1995. A Hits compilation was issued in 1996. Later studio records include Rewired (2004), The Road (2011), Let Me Fly (2017) and Out Of The Blue (2019). In 2025 the band released Looking Back - The Living Years, a retrospective that sat alongside the Refuelled! live run.

That sequence matters for how these 2027 dates read. The Mechanics are no longer a diversion from Genesis; they are a long-running band with a settled front line and a catalogue that still draws audiences. Rutherford’s remark about the longest-standing core underlines the point. Roachford and Howar share the vocals; Juby, Drennan and Collins complete the stage unit that has now lasted longer than earlier Mechanics configurations.

The Refuelled! Tour of 2025 proved the appetite was still there. Back On Track does not arrive with a new studio album announcement attached. It is a return to the road on the strength of the songs already in the set — the mid-eighties hits, the later singles, and the live chemistry the present line-up has built over successive runs.

What stands now

Support acts have not been named. Extra dates, if any, remain unconfirmed. What is fixed is the spine of the tour: May and June 2027, Britain first and then Germany and Austria, with the Royal Albert Hall and Glasgow among the British landmarks and a run of German and Austrian cities in the middle of the itinerary.

For a band formed four decades ago as a temporary outlet, the picture is straightforward. Tickets are already on sale, the venues are booked, and Mike + The Mechanics will be back on stage next spring with the line-up Rutherford describes as their most enduring yet.
