Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger documentary reaches UK cinemas

Directed by Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern and produced by Steven Knight, the film chronicles the band’s reunion and the 2025 tour that returned them to stadiums after years apart. It opens in UK cinemas before a Disney+ broadcast on an as-yet-unconfirmed date.

The voice that carried the early run

Oasis formed in Manchester in 1991, originally as the Rain, with Liam Gallagher on vocals, Paul Arthurs on guitar, Paul McGuigan and Tony McCarroll. Noel Gallagher joined a few months later and took over the songwriting. The band became one of the defining acts of Britpop, their early catalogue built on records that still dominate playlists and festival fields.

*Definitely Maybe* arrived in 1994 and set the pace as the fastest-selling debut album in UK history at the time. *(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?* followed in 1995. Noel wrote the songs that turned the Gallaghers into a global presence — among them Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger and Champagne Supernova — while Liam’s delivery made the Mancunian sound unmistakable. The brothers remained the only constant members through successive line-up changes until the split in 2009.

After Beady Eye and a solo career that began with *As You Were* in 2017, Liam Gallagher kept the songs live. Noel built Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. The 2025 reunion brought them back together for Live ’25, and the new film captures that return. Live recordings from the tour have already reached listeners: Wonderwall from Dublin on 16 August 2025, Slide Away from Cardiff, Cigarettes & Alcohol from Manchester, Little By Little from London, Bring It On Down from Edinburgh, and Acquiesce from Wembley Stadium.

The cinema release gives a closer look at how the reunion was put together and how the songs landed night after night. The limited theatrical window is under way, with the Disney+ drop still to come. No firm streaming date has been set.

Two decades after the peak Britpop years, and more than fifteen years after the original split, the band’s voice — literal and musical — remains something the Gallaghers will not trade away.
