Saw Doctors lock in Cork and Halifax for 2027

Virgin Media Park with The Stunning on 3 July, The Piece Hall with BIIRD on 12 June — two fixed points in a 40th anniversary year still taking shape.

The Saw Doctors have set two outdoor headline dates for the summer of 2027, giving firm shape to a year that marks four decades on the road. The Tuam band return to Virgin Media Park in Cork on Saturday 3 July 2027 — the venue they sold out in 2025 — with special guests The Stunning. On Saturday 12 June 2027 they headline The Piece Hall in Halifax as part of the Live at The Piece Hall series, with BIIRD joining them on the bill.

The Cork announcement came on 25 September 2026; the Halifax date followed a day later. Both sit inside a wider 2027 run that remains unfinished. Dates will be confirmed in due course. Neither statement announced a new album, a full tour itinerary or any further release plans.

Four decades from Tuam

Formed in 1986 in Tuam, County Galway, The Saw Doctors turned local storytelling into a national habit. They have placed eighteen singles inside the Republic of Ireland’s Top 30, three of them at number one. Their breakthrough, “I Useta Lover”, topped the Irish charts for nine consecutive weeks in 1990 and still holds the record as the country’s all-time biggest-selling single. On 15 February 2008 they received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards.

The early albums fixed the sound and the geography. If This Is Rock and Roll, I Want My Old Job Back arrived in 1991, All the Way from Tuam in 1992 and Same Oul’ Town in 1996. Sing a Powerful Song (1997) and Songs from Sun Street (1998) kept the catalogue moving through the decade. Recent years have brought a steady return to new material: the 2024 EP WHA’D’YA THINK A THAT? and the singles “I Love To Go Awanderin’”, “Man In The Moon”, “Quicksand” and “Sound Sham”, followed in 2025 by “Same Oul’ Town (with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra)” and “Tuam Beat”.

The present eight-piece line-up is led by the songwriting partnership of Davy Carton and Leo Moran and includes returning bassist Pearse Doherty. In August 2026 the band played Electric Picnic and brought the All-Ireland-winning Mayo Gaelic football team on stage — a reminder of how far the group’s reach still stretches beyond the usual rock circuit.

Galway neighbours and an English courtyard

Support in Cork comes from The Stunning, the Galway band formed in 1987 and best known for “Brewing Up a Storm”, “Romeo’s on Fire”, “Half Past Two” and “Heads Are Gonna Roll”. Built on a reputation for strong live shows, they have retained a large following across Ireland. Their recorded run stretches from Paradise in the Picturehouse (1990) and Tightrope (1993) through Twice Around the World (2018) to We Come Alive (2024), with the single “Stand Up In This Wicked World” issued in 2025. Pairing two Galway acts on a Cork summer bill underlines the regional thread that has always run through both careers.

The Halifax night places The Saw Doctors in the open courtyard of The Piece Hall for a headline slot in an established outdoor series, with BIIRD as special guests. It is a single confirmed English date rather than the start of a mapped UK tour; the band have left the rest of the 2027 picture open.

For an act that has spent forty years turning Tuam streets and small-town detail into songs that fill parks and halls, the Cork return and the Piece Hall booking fix two clear points on the calendar. What fills the months around them is still to be announced.
