Tears for Fears revive Seeds of Love and go live on record

Steven Wilson’s Atmos and 5.1 mixes land with the deluxe on the 16th; four new studio songs join Tipping Point Tour tapes on the 25th, and a concert film fills more than 1,100 cinemas that same weekend.

Tears for Fears will release a deluxe edition of their 1989 album The Seeds of Love on 16 October 2026 via UMR/Mercury. Nine days later, on 25 October, they issue Songs For A Nervous Planet through Concord Music — their first official live album. Between those two dates a concert film drawn from the same tour cycle reaches more than 1,100 cinemas worldwide.

The Seeds of Love package spans several formats. A three-CD set sits alongside a double LP pressed on blue marbled vinyl, a half-speed-mastered black vinyl edition, a coloured vinyl release carrying Steven Wilson’s mix, and a Blu-ray audio disc presenting new Dolby Atmos, stereo and updated 5.1 mixes by Wilson. The reissue revisits the band’s third studio album in full technical detail and places that 1989 record back at the centre of the autumn catalogue.

Bath, the charts and a long third album

Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal formed Tears for Fears in Bath in 1981 after the break-up of their earlier band Graduate. The duo were associated with the new wave synthesiser groups of the early 1980s and found international chart success as part of the Second British Invasion. The Hurting, released in 1983, set out their early sound. Songs from the Big Chair followed in 1985 and widened their reach still further. The Seeds of Love arrived in 1989 as a longer, more elaborately produced record. Elemental came in 1993. Across the decades the pair have returned to the catalogue in remasters and expanded editions; an authorised live album, however, had not yet been issued.

Songs For A Nervous Planet is built from recordings made on the Tipping Point Tour and is completed by four new studio tracks: Say Goodbye To Mum And Dad, Emily Said, Astronaut and The Girl That I Call Home. Available formats include a double LP, a deluxe triple-vinyl edition, CD and digital. The band have shared Astronaut as a new single, accompanied by a live version of Head Over Heels from the same body of work.

From the stage to the screen

The companion film Tears For Fears Live (A Tipping Point Film) premieres on 24 and 26 October via Trafalgar Releasing. Screenings are planned in more than 1,100 cinemas around the world, and tickets are already on sale through the film’s official website. The cinema dates sit between the deluxe reissue and the live album and give the tour material a second public life on the big screen.

The announcements arrived in the final days of September 2026. Together they place a major catalogue expansion, a long-awaited live document and a theatrical film release inside the same short window. What touring or further recording may follow has not been set out in the material released so far. For listeners who have lived with The Hurting, Songs from the Big Chair and The Seeds of Love for decades, October now carries both a fresh look at the 1989 album and the first chance to take the recent stage work home on disc.
