Thin Lizzy’s Nightlife back on orange vinyl

Confirmed in mid-September, the 1974 twin-guitar set joins the Icons strand for a one-day exclusive on 17 October, with pre-orders already open at specialist retailers.

Thin Lizzy’s 1974 album Nightlife will return on 17 October 2026 as a limited-edition orange vinyl pressing for UK National Album Day. It forms part of National Album Day’s Icons theme and will be available exclusively on the day. Pre-orders are available through specialist retailers.

Nightlife was the first Thin Lizzy album to feature the classic twin-guitar line-up of Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson alongside Phil Lynott and Brian Downey. Ron Nevison and Phil Lynott produced the record. Both the production credit and the line-up place the album at a clear point of arrival: the dual-lead guitar approach enters Thin Lizzy's studio picture here, with Lynott’s bass and writing and Downey’s drums framing the new density of the arrangements.

The 1974 running order

The album’s tracks are She Knows, Night Life, It’s Only Money, Still In Love with You, Frankie Carroll, Showdown, Banshee, Philomena, Sha La La and Dear Heart. The orange vinyl edition restores that sequence as a single physical object, timed for a calendar day built around the long-player rather than the single or the playlist.

National Album Day treats the album as a complete statement. The 2026 Icons strand sets Nightlife among other classic titles given exclusive or limited treatment for 17 October. The format of this edition is deliberately narrow: one album, one colourway, tied to one retail window. It is not presented as a multi-disc overhaul. What is on offer is the 1974 set, pressed again, coloured for the occasion, and sold through the day’s exclusive channel once that date arrives.

Phil Lynott died in 1986. Thin Lizzy’s public life since then has been the life of a catalogue — records reissued, line-ups documented, songs kept in circulation. Nightlife sits early in the twin-guitar run. Gorham and Robertson’s presence on the sessions marks it off from the albums before it; Nevison and Lynott’s production credit is the other fixed point. The craft on the disc comprises the twin guitars, the rhythm section underneath, and a track list that moves from She Knows through the title cut, It’s Only Money and Still In Love with You to the closing stretch of Philomena, Sha La La and Dear Heart.

For an Irish rock band whose reputation was built as much on records as on the stage, a limited pressing of this title is a direct way of keeping that hinge-point album visible. The Icons framing underlines the choice: Nightlife is being put forward as a record worth holding as a whole, not only as a source of extracted tracks.
