True Confessions back at No.6 after four decades

Bananarama’s third studio album has re-entered the UK Official Albums Chart at No.6 for the week ending 7 September 2026, forty years after its first release. The 40th?anniversary edition of *True Confessions*, issued through London Records on 28 August 2026, is the group’s first UK Top 10 album since 1988 and their highest?charting studio album in their homeland.

The band said: 'We are absolutely thrilled to be back in the Top 10. The outpouring of love and support our fans have shown throughout this campaign has been truly overwhelming.'

Formats, mixes and signed sleeves

The campaign covers a wide physical range. A remastered picture disc LP appears for the first time. A limited transparent red vinyl is exclusive to HMV UK stores. An expanded 2LP gatefold places new 2026 remixes of *Venus* and *More Than Physical* by Richard X, The Alias and Luke Mornay on the second disc. A 3CD expanded edition adds further remixes by AMYL along with rare and previously unreleased extended versions.

Exclusive to the official store are three individually signed CD editions, each in a unique sleeve featuring one original member — Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward or Siobhan Fahey — with personal recollections and a different hidden bonus track. The campaign also includes reproductions of 1986 merchandise and a new Richard X Burning Flame ’26 mix of *Venus*. Pre-orders and other merchandise remain available there.

Where the record sits in the run

Bananarama formed in London in 1980 as a trio of friends: Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey and Keren Woodward. Their success on pop and dance charts saw them listed in the Guinness World Records for the world’s highest number of chart entries by an all-female group. Between 1982 and 2009 they placed 32 singles in the Top 50 of the UK Singles Chart.

*True Confessions*, first released on 30 June 1986, followed *Deep Sea Skiving* (1983) and the self-titled *Bananarama* (1984). The sequence continued with *Wow!* in 1987 and *The Greatest Hits Collection* in 1988. Fahey left the group in 1988 and was replaced by Jacquie O’Sullivan until 1991, after which the line-up settled as a duo of Dallin and Woodward.

Their later catalogue includes *Pop Life* (1991), the 2023 *Masquerade* project, *Glorious – The Ultimate Collection* (2024), *Glorious (Live in London)* (2025), the *Now Or Never* EP (2026) and the *Venus (Richard X’s Burning Flame ’26 Mix)* single that year. The anniversary push therefore lands inside an active stretch of reissues, live recordings and fresh mixes rather than a one-off nostalgia drop.

The chart return underlines how firmly the 1986 record still resonates with listeners. *Venus* remains one of the group’s best-known tracks, and the new mixes keep the material in step with contemporary dance production while the signed editions reconnect the original three members with the campaign. With stock still circulating via the official store and HMV, the reissue remains available. Whether further chart weeks follow is not yet known, but the Top 10 placing already marks a milestone in the band’s domestic album history.
