Weather forces Sheeran off the Gillette stage

Ed Sheeran’s gigs at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, scheduled for 25 and 26 September 2026 as part of The Loop Tour, have been cancelled after a nor’easter brought severe weather warnings, heavy rain and strong winds across New England.

Tour promoter Messina Touring Group said the decision followed consultation with local officials and prioritised the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved. Venue owner Robert Kraft confirmed stadium and tour management had monitored the forecast for a week before cancelling. Refunds are being issued automatically to Ticketmaster purchasers. The cancellations are unrelated to any other controversies around the tour.

These would have been Sheeran’s eighth and ninth shows at Gillette Stadium — a sign of how often the venue has featured on his US tours.

From Framlingham to the stadium circuit

Edward Christopher Sheeran was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and raised in Framlingham, Suffolk. He began writing songs around the age of eleven. In early 2011 he independently released the extended play No. 5 Collaborations Project and signed with Asylum Records that year. His debut album, +, followed in 2011 and fixed the pattern that has defined his career since: records that travel and a live schedule that rarely stands still.

The years immediately before the major-label deal were crowded with short-form releases — You Need Me in 2009, Loose Change and Songs I Wrote With Amy in 2010, then Live at the Bedford and further projects through 2011 and 2012, including The Slumdon Bridge. That early discipline of constant output has never really left. Autumn Variations arrived in 2023, alongside the singles Eyes Closed and Life Goes On featuring Luke Combs. In 2025 came the album Play, followed by an Extended Edition and a Portman Road Edition, and the single Azizam.

The Loop Tour belongs to the Play chapter. Stadium dates on this scale are now a familiar part of Sheeran’s calendar, and a return to Gillette for what would have been shows eight and nine underlines how embedded the New England stop has become in his run. The craft on stage — voice, guitar, the loop pedal that still anchors so much of the set — is the same craft that carried his early EPs into arenas and then football grounds.

What the cancellation leaves

For audiences holding tickets for the two Foxborough nights, the practical outcome is clear. Purchases made through Ticketmaster are being refunded automatically. No rescheduled dates were announced. Whether the Massachusetts stop will be moved later in the run or simply dropped remains unknown.

What does not change is the body of work the tour was carrying. From + through Autumn Variations and into Play, Sheeran has kept a near-continuous presence on the road for the better part of fifteen years. A nor’easter has stopped two nights of The Loop Tour. The rest of the itinerary, and whatever follows the Play cycle, will await clearer weather and an announcement from the promoter and the venue.
