Yes open Aurora wider with instrumentals and film

The June album found chart places in Britain and Germany; the new cut includes a Matt Hutchings film.

Yes released a digital deluxe edition of Aurora on 2 October 2026, extending the life of their 24th studio album barely four months after it first reached shops and streaming platforms. The new package includes instrumental versions of the complete record and arrives with a new video for the track Ariadne, produced by Matt Hutchings.

Aurora was originally issued on 12 June 2026 via InsideOutMusic/Sony Music. It debuted at number 42 in the UK and at number 8 in Germany. The album was recorded across 2024 and 2025 by the stable line-up of Steve Howe, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison, Billy Sherwood and Jay Schellen. Howe produced the sessions. That continuity of personnel sits behind a set the band have now chosen to reopen rather than leave as a single finished statement.

Instrumentals and the Ariadne film

The digital deluxe edition does not alter the June masters. Instead it presents the full album in instrumental form, stripping the vocal parts so the arrangements stand on their own. For a progressive rock band whose writing turns on extended structures and interplay, that choice lets listeners hear the architecture without the lyric line. The Ariadne video, timed to the deluxe launch rather than the original release date, adds a visual reading of one track. Matt Hutchings produced the film; it is new to this release.

Physical editions of Aurora remain available alongside the new digital cut. The list runs from a Ltd Deluxe 180g Light Green 2LP+2CD+Blu-ray artbook and poster through a Ltd Deluxe 2CD+Blu-ray artbook, a Gatefold 180g 2LP with LP-booklet, a Special Edition CD digipak and the standard digital album. Every configuration carries artwork by Roger Dean and Freyja Dean. The Deans’ work frames the packaging across vinyl, disc and artbook formats that still sit on sale, giving the physical run a consistent visual identity even as the digital side expands.

From the studio into 2027

Steve Howe, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison, Billy Sherwood and Jay Schellen formed the working unit that cut the album over those two years. Howe’s production credit puts the guitarist at the centre of both performance and final shape. InsideOutMusic and Sony Music handled the original release; the deluxe digital version keeps that catalogue position while adding the new layers.

The recording window of 2024–2025 and the June release already place Aurora as a recent chapter. The October deluxe edition keeps that chapter open. Chart positions in Britain and Germany show an audience that met the record on first release; the instrumental disc and the Ariadne film give that audience another way in without demanding a wait for anniversary packaging years later. What changes is the shape of Aurora as a listening object. The vocal album stands as it did in June. Beside it now sits a full instrumental counterpart, and one song carries a film made for this moment.

The band announced the deluxe edition on their official website and Facebook page. For a catalogue entry still early in its public life, the instrumental pass and the Ariadne film amount to a deliberate second door rather than a closed book.
