Sharon Watkins

Sharon Watkins is a British singer-songwriter whose heartfelt ballads blend folk and indie-pop. After eight years in the United States developing her sound, she returned with a style shaped by American influences and her classical training.

Her talent as a songwriter was recognised early on, when she won the UK Northern Songwriters Competition with “Just to Take My Mind Off You.” Having performed around the world with a range of artists, she went on to collaborate with outstanding musicians to create a ten-track collection showcasing her songwriting.

She introduced the project in January 2022 with her debut single, “Proud,” a moving pop ballad built on haunting piano, rich string arrangements and deeply personal lyrics. The songs were then released as a series of singles throughout 2022, including her award-winning “Just to Take My Mind Off You.”

The collection features contributions from Bryan Corbett (trumpet for The Brand New Heavies), “Bebee” Aldridge (saxophone for Gary Barlow and Macklemore), Sam Miller (engineer for Razorlight and The Hoosiers’ No. 1 album The Trick to Life) and Sammy J Stopford (session drummer whose work has taken him from Abbey Road to Glastonbury).

Sharon Watkins' latest release is the single Proud, out in 2022.
